Alimony Law (Maintenance Law) in NY State; Determining Settlement Amounts
Alimony or “spousal support” in New York State is referred to by the courts as Maintenance. It’s a monetary amount mandated by the courts for one spouse to pay the “supported spouse” during and/or after divorce proceedings - and is considered separately from Child Support. In NY State, there's a simple formula for calculating Temporary Maintenance award amounts; Post-divorce Maintenance is more complex.
